Bullshit Meter

8.2 / 10

The bullshit here is not that Ideum does uninteresting work. The work actually sounds compelling. The bullshit is the familiar compensation-to-scope mismatch: a job posting that stacks senior responsibilities into one role while presenting the pay as if this were a standard mid-level production position.

This Producer is expected to manage interactive media and experience design projects, work with museum and Fortune 500 clients, coordinate designers, developers, creative directors, and other departments, help write proposals, support quoting, anticipate staff needs and bottlenecks, participate in staff reviews, recommend promotions, raises, and disciplinary action, mentor creative staff, stay current on industry trends, and travel for exhibit installation and commissioning.

That is a lot of verbs for $60,000 to $80,000.

The posting also emphasizes high emotional intelligence, superior listening skills, steadiness, dependability, and the ability to respond to challenges in complex projects with many stakeholders. Those are good qualities, but in a job posting, they can also be a red flag. Sometimes “high emotional intelligence” means the organization values maturity and care. Other times, it means the role is expected to absorb pressure from clients, staff, leadership, deadlines, unclear scopes, and production realities without visibly cracking.

This one reads like a job that wants a calm adult in the room, a project manager in the spreadsheet, a client whisperer on the call, a creative strategist in the proposal, a personnel manager in the review cycle, and a field producer on the installation floor.

For $60k–$80k.

Please admire the exhibit titled One Person, Many Departments.
